Baseball
Named to the MEAC Baseball All-Tournament Team...pitched 6.2 scoreless innings to help NSU beat Maryland Eastern Shore 4-0 in an elimination game at the MEAC Tournament...allowed a season-low three hits while matching his season best with five strikeouts to earn his sixth win of the season.
Softball

Named the MEAC Softball Rookie of the Week...Wright hit .500 with three triples, two doubles and 10 RBI in the Spartans’ five games last week...was perfect in the first game against Hampton, hitting 4-for-4, with one triple, one double and one RBI...was also 3-for-3 in stolen bases in that game...in the non-conference doubleheader at Winston-Salem State on Saturday, Wright went a combined 3-for-8 with a double, triple and six RBI.

NORFOLK, Va. - Sherie Cornish, Norfolk State University's Interim Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator, recently graduated from the 2008-09 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females. The graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 25 concluded a year-long program, which was held at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.



Shardonay Blueford was selected to the USOC F.L.A.M.E. program

NORFOLK, Va. — Former Norfolk State volleyball player Shardonay Blueford (Chesapeake, Va.) has been accepted to the United States Olympic Committee’s 2009 F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) program which runs from August 1-4 at the U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Blueford, a four-year member of the Spartan volleyball team, graduated from NSU in December 2008 and is currently pursuing a master’s in sports studies with an emphasis in sports management at High Point University in Greensboro, N.C.

NORFOLK, Va. – Registration is now open for the 2009 Anthony Evans Green and Gold Basketball Camp, to be held at Norfolk State University’s Joseph Echols Hall.

The individual day camp runs from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The camp cost is $150.

NORFOLK, Va. — NSU head softball coach Kary Kankey and assistant coach Heidi Cavallo will serve as two of the camp staff for the 21st Annual Tidewater Girls' Softball Camps, July 7-8 at Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk and Aug. 3-5 at Deer Park in Newport News.
