Athletes of the Week
Women's Volleyball
Posted 50 assists in NSU's two matches last week...had six kills, no errors and hit .429 in the loss to Bethune-Cookman...added 27 assists in the loss to Florida A&M...had five digs in each match.
Football
Recorded 10 catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-16 win over Delaware State...had eight catches for 86 yards and both of his touchdowns in the decisive fourth-quarter rally...scored the winning TD with 49 seconds remaining on a 39-yard catch-and-run where he broke two tackles before finding the end zone...it was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season.

Torrie Browning

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University head men’s and women’s tennis coach Matthew Halfpenny announced Tuesday the hiring of Torrie Browning as the assistant coach for both teams.

Browning is a 2009 graduate of Wichita State University where she was a four-year member of the tennis team. She earned Missouri Valley All-Conference honors her freshman through senior seasons and was named to the MVC Scholar Athlete First Team as a senior.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State men’s and women’s tennis teams will compete in the Monarch Collegiate Tennis Invitational hosted by Old Dominion this Friday through Sunday. The three-day affair will feature NSU, ODU, Christopher Newport, Morgan State and Virginia Commonwealth. The matches will be played at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center and at the ODU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University athletics director Marty L. Miller announced on Tuesday the hiring of Matthew Halfpenny as the Spartans’ new men’s and women’s tennis coach.

Halfpenny replaces Nathaniel Warren, who retired following the 2008-09 school year.

Halfpenny served as the facilities coordinator at Old Dominion University’s Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center for the last two years.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University men’s and women’s tennis coach Nathaniel Warren announced his retirement after 17 years as head coach.

Warren was responsible for starting up the men’s tennis program in the 1992-93 season and the women’s in 1994-95. He compiled a 402-216 combined record in his tenure.
