NORFOLK, Va.Angie Clewis (Lancaster, Texas) had a career-high 14 kills and hit .312 to help the Norfolk State volleyball team to a 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall. NSU (7-19, 3-3 MEAC) won the match 25-17, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24.

The Spartans dominated the first set and jumped out to a 23-10 lead. But the Lady Wildcats (9-12, 3-2 MEAC) went on a 7-1 run to narrow the deficit. A kill by Clewis ended the set, putting NSU up 1-0 in the match.

BCU got on the board first in the second set and held the lead for most of the way. A setting error by Daryl Rodriguez tied things up at 24-all and the Spartans got the win on a BCU attack error.

The Lady Wildcats found new life in the third set and hit .361 as a team to force a fourth set. But the Spartans came out focused in the fourth set and held BCU off to take the match.

Kaiyana Johnson had 12 kills for BCU, while Rodriguez had 23 assists. Shakhea Moore-Hagins had a match-high 23 digs and Jessica Wilson had 11.

For NSU, Elayne Greer (Bakersfield, Calif.) has 13 kills. Tracey Copley (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 12 kills and eight digs and Nicole Kessner (Blacksburg, Va.) had a double-double of 43 assists and 15 digs. Aurelia Isham (Lancaster, Texas.) and Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) had 21 and 20 digs, respectively.

NSU returns to Echols Hall for the final home match of the season at 3 p.m. next Sunday. Seniors Clewis, Isham and Honore will be recognized in the pre-match Senior Day activities.
