NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University senior safety Terrell Whitehead (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named the MEAC Football Defensive Player of the Week, and junior right guard Markeece Preston (Paterson, N.J.) earned Offensive Lineman of the Week Honors, the conference announced Monday.
Whitehead matched his season high with 10 tackles and recorded his first career two-interception game in the 21-16 come-from-behind win over Delaware State on Saturday. Whitehead picked off a pass in the second quarter to end one Hornet drive in NSU territory. He then came up with the game-saving interception in the Spartan end zone to preserve the win with nine seconds left in the game.
Whitehead also had his first career sack and added one pass breakup.
Preston was a force for the Spartan line. He graded out at 90 percent and was credited with four pancake blocks. He helped lead the way for NSU to gain 334 yards of total offense, including 214 yards in the decisive fourth quarter. He is the third different Spartan to earn the Lineman of the Week honor this season.
