Branche Named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week

Branche earned MEAC honors, also up for HSRN accolades.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State junior tailback DeAngelo Branche (Norfolk, Va.) was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Branche rushed for a season-high 145 yards on 19 carries in Saturday's 31-23 win at Morgan State. He scored two touchdowns, on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and on a 16-yard reception in the third for his first career receiving touchdown. The 145 yards are the most for a MEAC running back this year.

This is the second time in Branche's career that he has earned MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Branche ranks fourth in the MEAC in rushing (748 yards, 83.1 ypg) and tied for fourth in scoring (eight total TDs, 5.3 points per game). He has four 100-yard rushing games this year, second-most in the MEAC.

Branche is also one of five candidates for the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division I HBCU Player of the Week Award. Log onto www.hsrn.com and vote before 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
