NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State men’s and women’s tennis teams will compete in the Monarch Collegiate Tennis Invitational hosted by Old Dominion this Friday through Sunday. The three-day affair will feature NSU, ODU, Christopher Newport, Morgan State and Virginia Commonwealth. The matches will be played at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center and at the ODU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

The tournament kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday with men’s and women’s doubles matches. Singles play starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continues with the singles semifinals and finals on Sunday.

The teams are making their fall season debut under new head coach Matthew Halfpenny.
Four men are expected to compete, led by junior Arsenio Culver (Philadelphia, Pa.), who posted a 5-4 record in singles play in 2009.

Six women will suit up this weekend, led by junior Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) who went 5-4 in singles competition in the spring.
