NORFOLK, Va. – Michael Russell had four of Stony Brook's 14 hits and the visiting Seawolves pulled away for a 12-0 win over Norfolk State on Sunday at
Marty L. Miller Field.
Brian Herrmann and four Stony Brook relievers combined to limit the Spartans (0-6) to six hits. Freshman
Aaron Robinson had two of those, including a triple.
The Seawolves (6-1) scored three times in the third, three more in the fifth and five in the seventh to put distance between themselves and NSU. Sean Buckhout started the scoring with an RBI single in the third, and Michael Palazzolo added an RBI double before a third run scored on an NSU misplay in the frame.
Buckhout doubled and scored, and Michael Wilson hit an RBI double in Stony Brook's three-run fifth before Stony Brook tacked on five more in the seventh. Wilson and Russell both brought home two runs with a base hit in the seventh.
Robinson was 2-for-4 to lead the Spartans.

Tony Leite and
Khie Simms also added base hits, with Mahdi and Leite both notching doubles.
Wilson was 3-for-6 with three RBIs for SBU. Russell (4-for-5) and Buckhout (2-for-3) both added two RBIs.
Herrmann (2-0) allowed three hits and struck out four over five scoreless innings to pick up the win. NSU right hander
Trey Hanchey (0-2) allowed 11 hits and seven runs (four earned) in six-plus innings to suffer the loss. He did not walk a batter and struck out four, including fanning the side in the sixth. NSU used three relievers, with
Joey Santos striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning of work.
The Spartans are back in action next weekend against Hofstra in a three-game series. The teams plays a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday at
Marty L. Miller Field and a single game next Sunday.
