NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State women's tennis team won its third consecutive match with a 7-0 defeat of Winston-Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Tennis Complex.

The Spartans (3-3) swept all three doubles matches and six singles matches to drop WSSU to 1-16 on the season.

In doubles play, Fiorella Valdivia (Lima, Peru) and Stepanka Velebova (Tachov, Czech Republic) won 8-4 at No. 1, Brittany Foster (Norfolk, Va.) and Ashlee Daugherty (Las Vegas, Nev.) won 8-2 at No. 2, and Lerissa Morris (Kingstown, SVG) and Jennifer Astbury (Chesapeake, Va.) posted an 8-5 victory at No. 3.

Daugherty dominated Jessica Smith at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Valdivia and Astbury also played well, as they only dropped one game each.

The Spartans travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Friday to take on conference opponent Bethune-Cookman.
