4 Spartans to Compete at NCAA East Regional

Speller ran a season-best time of 20.89 seconds in the 200m at the MEAC Outdoor Championship.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University sprinters Sean Holston (Springfield, Va.) and Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.), hurdler Aramis Massenburg (Ettrick, Va.) and high jumper Raphael Hall (Chesapeake, Va.) will compete this weekend at the NCAA East Regional Track & Field meet in Greensboro, N.C.

The meet will run Thursday through Saturday at North Carolina A&T State University's Irwin Belk Track. It is a venue very familiar to the Spartans. NSU won its fifth consecutive MEAC outdoor track title there earlier this month, and several Spartans posted personal bests in their respective events on the Irwin Belk Track.

Holston and Speller, who will both compete this week in the men's 200 meters, ran season-best times of 20.83 and 20.89 seconds, respectively, in that event in the MEAC preliminaries. Both are ranked in the top 30 in the region in the 200 meters.

Massenburg ran his personal-best time of 13.91 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at the MEAC outdoor meet, placing second overall. His time is the 14th best in the region this season.

Hall placed third in the conference high jump earlier this month. He achieved his regional qualifying mark of 6 feet, 10.25 inches at the Colonial Relays in April. This will be the second regional appearance in the last three years for Hall, a senior who placed fifth in the region (collegiate-best 7-1) as a sophomore in 2008 on his way to the national meet.
