NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State redshirt freshman cornerback
Dionte Sullivan was released from Norfolk General Hospital on Sunday and is walking under his own power one day after leaving the Spartans' game with North Carolina A&T with a neck injury.
Sullivan was injured on an NSU kickoff with 7:12 remaining in the third quarter after the Spartans took a 14-10 lead. The game was delayed more than 10 minutes while Sullivan was immobilized by team medical personnel and removed from the field on a stretcher. He was transported to Norfolk General Hospital, where he underwent an array of tests and was kept overnight for observation. By Sunday morning, Sullivan was able to walk on his own, and was discharged from the hospital Sunday afternoon.
“We are very relieved and pleased that Dionte is doing much better today,” NSU head coach
Pete Adrian said. “It was a scary scene for everyone last night, and to know he is already walking is a great relief. We look forward to his continued recovery.”
Sullivan will continue to be evaluated by University medical personnel, and his future playing status is not known as this time. He has played in all nine games and started once this season for the Spartans, making 12 tackles.
