NSU Men Take 5 1sts at Tribe Open

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State men's track and field team tallied five first-place finishes Saturday at the Spartans' outdoor season-opening Tribe Open hosted by William & Mary.

The Spartans took two firsts in field events and three more on the track. Sophomores John James and Darris Shelton won their respective jumping events. James won the high jump with his top height of 6 feet, 8.25 inches. Shelton won his signature event, the long jump, with a long leap of 24-4.25.

On the track, senior Aramis Massenburg won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.12 seconds. Sophomore Vincent Brown won the 1,500 meters in 4:07.21, and junior Josef Tessema won the 5,000 in 15:00.25.

Elsewhere, senior Tyrell Moon claimed second in the 400 meters (48.01) and sophomore Jonathan Ross was third in the javelin throw (144-9).

The Spartans are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays.
