LANDOVER, Md. – Fridah Koech posted a personal-best time in winning the silver medal in the 5,000 meters Thursday during first-day action at the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
Koech kick-started the day for the Spartans by crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 15.96 seconds to finish as the runner-up in the 5,000 meters. Her teammate, senior
Caroline Samoei, placed fourth in the event in 18:54.44. They collectively gave the Spartans 13 team points, which places NSU third through two team events scored.
NSU's sprinters got off to a strong start as well, as two Spartans entered in the 200 meters advanced through their semifinal heats.
Kiara Grant won her heat and was the second-fastest qualifier overall in 23.97 seconds.
Malika Pride posted an indoor PR of 23.99 and was the third-fastest qualifier.
Competition resumes at 9 a.m. Friday with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.
