NORFOLK, Va. | Norfolk State University head baseball coach Keith Shumate announced on Tuesday the 2023 baseball schedule, which features 27 home games at Marty L. Miller Field as the Spartans usher in a new era as members of the Northeast Conference.
"On behalf of all our Spartan baseball players and coaches we are excited and looking forward to the challenge of competing this spring in the NEC," Shumate said. "We are more than grateful to represent our university against tough programs, both the new and traditional ones. The non - conference schedule is quite a test that should prepare us well for league play."
The Spartans, who went 15-32 overall and 12-18 in their final season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), opens the 2023 season with four home games against Morehead State (February 17-19) at Marty L. Miller Field.
Norfolk State remains home for the final three games of the opening month against Niagara (February 24-26).
NSU begins the second month of the season with three straight games at home versus Binghamton (March 3-5), before taking the small trip to Old Dominion for a midweek game (March 7).
The Spartans open NEC play with a home series against Sacred Heart (March 10-12), before taking to the road for the next eight games.
Norfolk State visits William & Mary (March 14), before visiting VMI (March 17-19). The Green and Gold wrap up its road swing with a trip to Central Connecticut State (March 25-28) and VCU (March 28).
NSU plays host to Stonehill College (March 31-April 2) and will conclude its eight-game homestand against Longwood (April 4), Long Island (April 6-8) and VMI (April 12).
The Spartans return to the road for eight consecutive games, starting with a visit to Delaware State (April 14-16), followed by Longwood (April 18), Fairleigh Dickinson (April 21-23) and VMI (April 25).
Norfolk State plays host to Maryland Eastern Shore (April 28-30) at Mary L. Miller Field to wrap up the third month of the season.
NSU begins the final stretch with a weekend series at Merrimack College (May 5-7) and will return home one final time against Wagner College (May 12-14).
The Spartans visit Richmond (May 16) for a non-conference game, before wrapping up the regular season with a weekend series against Coppin State (May 18-20).
The NEC Tournament is set for May 24 and will conclude May 28.
