NORFOLK, Va. – Head Coach Debra Clark of the Norfolk State women's basketball team recently added to her 2011 recruiting class with the signing of wing player Ebony Brown from Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy.
A 5-10 small forward, Brown earned All-Metro Honorable Mention by the Atlanta Journal Constitution after her senior year. She was also one of 23 players named to the Class A 2011 All-State Team by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, earning honorable mention all-state.
“I'm very excited about adding Ebony to this recruiting class,” said Clark, who will enter her third season at the helm of the NSU program next year. “She will provide us with additional scoring from the perimeter. Also, with her athleticism, we look forward to her contributing in the areas of rebounding and perimeter defense.”
Brown averaged 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as she led Southwest Atlanta to a 24-5 record for the 2010-11 season after helping the team advance to the semifinals of the state tournament in 2010. Brown also added 2.8 steals and 1.5 assists per game in 2011. She totaled 6.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game her junior season.
Both MaxPreps and the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) named her to the AA all-state team after her sophomore year at Strong Rock Christian. She also earned All-Region honors after both her sophomore and senior years.
Brown joins NSU's other 2011 class members, local Hampton Roads products Quineshia Leonard from Hampton High School and Ashley Dillard from Woodside High School. Both were named to the 2011 All-Peninsula District Second Team by the league's coaches after signing with the Spartans during the November signing period.
