NORFOLK, Va. — Junior designated player Rebecca Barnes (Hampton, Va.) was named to the 2009 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Softball Second Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Barnes, a 2009 second-team All-MEAC pick, led the Spartans in batting (.322), slugging percentage (.521), RBI (33), home runs (seven), total bases (76) and tied for the team lead with eight doubles. She scored the second most runs on the team (30) and split time between third base and designated player during the season. Barnes was also second on the team with 47 hits and 146 at-bats.
Virginia Tech’s Jenna Rhodes was named Player of the Year, while Meredith Felts of James Madison received Pitcher of the Year honors. Radford’s Leigh Godfrey and Mickey Dean were named Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
