NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State head football coach Latrell Scott announced Thursday the addition of two additional mid-year enrollees for the Spartans, prep school quarterback Larry "Tripp" Harrington and prep school defensive back Dy-Shawn Simpkins Jr.
 
Both players are enrolled for spring semester classes and will participate in off-season workouts and spring practice with the Spartans.
 
Originally a member of the Spartans' signing class of 2016, Harrington (6-1, 175) spent last fall at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. He led FUMA to an 8-2 record while accounting for 22 touchdowns this past fall. Before FUMA, Harrington starred for East Wake High School in Wendell, N.C. As a senior at East Wake, Harrington led all Triangle-area (N.C.) quarterbacks with 1,187 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns while passing for 2,507 yards and 24 more scores. He was named the Greater Neuse River Conference 4A Player of the Year and was also a Raleigh News & Observer All-Metro selection.
 
Simpkins (6-1, 175) attended Jireh Prep in Matthews, N.C. as a post-graduate this past fall. Before his prep year, Simpkins was a standout defensive back at Paramus Catholic High in Paramus, N.J. As a senior in 2015, Simpkins earned first-team All-Big North Conference accolades after recording 75 tackles, 12 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two blocked field goals and one interception. He posted 69 tackles and 13 pass breakups during his junior season at Paramus Catholic.
 
Harrington and Simpkins join junior college linebacker Michael Kwegyir-Attah as Scott's initial three signees for the 2017 class. Kwegyir-Attah (6-0, 235), an all-conference linebacker out of Monroe College in New York, signed a national letter of intent with the Spartans last month and is also enrolled for the spring semester.
