NORFOLK, Va. — Carol Forbes pitched a complete-game five-hitter to lead San Jose State past Radford 5-1 in the championship game of the Mid-Atlantic Softball College Umpires on Sunday afternoon at the NSU Softball Field.
Courtney Lewis was 4-for-4 with an RBI for SJSU, who went 5-1 in the tournament and avenged their pool play loss to Radford from Friday.
Norfolk State (2-6) lost its lost two games in the tournament to finish sixth. The Spartans fell to San Jose State 11-0 in five innings in the early game at NSU on Sunday, and then dropped a 5-2 decision to George Mason in the fifth-place game.
In the SJSU game, Lewis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Monique Kelley was 2-for-3, and Carlie Hill was 2-for-4 and scored three times for SJSU. Katie Byrne (Norfolk, Va.) was 2-for-2 for NSU.
In the fifth-place game, Amanda Bach was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI for George Mason, and Amber Straube pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, and struck out five. Stacy James drove in two for GMU, which also took advantage of five Spartan errors.
