Former Spartans Brown, Sturrup Fare Well at World Championships

NORFOLK, Va. — Former Norfolk State track All-Americans Chandra Sturrup and Christopher Brown competed last week at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Helsinki, Finland.

 

Sturrup and Brown, both representing their native Bahamas, took fourth-place finishes in their specialties, Sturrup in the 100 meters and Brown in the 400. Brown ran a personal-best time of 44.48 seconds in the 400, finishing behind Jeremy Wariner and Andrew Rock of the United State and Tyler Christopher of Canada.

 

Brown also earned a silver medal as part of the Bahamian 1,600-meter relay team. Brown, running the anchor leg, teamed with Nathaniel McKinney, Avard Moncur and Andrae Williams to run a national-best time of 2:57.32, trailing only the American team of Rock, Derrick Brew, Darold Williamson and Wariner.
