NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior second baseman Anselmo Cantu (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Cantu batted .409 (9-of-22) with four home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in the Spartans' six games last week. He also doubled once and stole four bases to help NSU (7-12, 4-4 MEAC) to a 3-3 record.
Cantu hit one home run in each game against Coppin State last Tuesday, and capped the week with his first-ever two-homer game in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday. He currently leads NSU with a .420 average, six home runs, a .797 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. Cantu is the first Spartan to earn weekly MEAC honors this season.
