NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior third baseman Ryan Montgomery was named MEAC Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Montgomery hit .462 (6-of-13) to lead NSU to a 3-0 week last week. He had at least one RBI in all three victories for the Spartans, who have now won seven straight. Montgomery had an insurance RBI single in the 3-1 win over William & Mary last Wednesday – the Spartans' first win over the Tribe since 1992. He then went 5-for-10 in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Coppin State, matching his career high with four hits in the opener. He added a pair of doubles in the game one win, and finished the doubleheader with five total runs scored.
This is the first time Montgomery has earned a MEAC Player of the Week award in his Spartan career.
