NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State athletics department recently joined with nine other Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) institutions and the conference office to enter into a partnership with Nike to become the official apparel, accessory and equipment brand.
The contract, which officially begins on Sept. 1, 2016, will run through Aug. 31, 2020. It will run concurrently with the conference-wide footwear agreement with Nike that has been in place since 2005 and that will also expire in 2020.
"I am extremely happy that the MEAC has entered into a multi-year agreement with Nike to become the official apparel, accessory and equipment provider for the conference," said NSU Athletics Director
Marty L. Miller. "The student-athletes and coaches are excited to be able to wear Nike uniforms, shoes and other accessories. This partnership will not only strengthen the viability of the conference, but also heighten the visibility of our athletics program."
Joining NSU in the agreement with Nike are fellow MEAC schools Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, Delaware State, Florida A&M, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Savannah State and South Carolina State as well as the MEAC office.
"Both Nike and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference have a rich, storied history and progressive mindset," said Kit Morris, Senior Director of Sports Marketing at Nike. "The continuation of this partnership builds on that legacy to drive the future of student-athletes at these historic institutions."
Russell Athletic had served as the official uniform and apparel provider for the entire conference since 2004.
