SMYRNA, Del. – Behind four runners who placed in the top five overall, the Norfolk State men's cross country team won its MEAC-record 12th title and first since 2011 on Saturday morning at the 2017 MEAC Championship at the Delaware State University Outreach & Research Center.
NSU totaled a meet-low 25 points, well ahead of runner-up Maryland Eastern Shore, which had 84 points. Last year, MDES edged NSU by a single point for the title.
Anteneh Girma paced the Spartans for the fourth meet in a row, crossing the line as the individual runner-up in 25 minutes, 8.4 seconds on the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore

Felix Kiprotich completed the run of Spartans in the top five with a time of 25:35.7.

Festus Bett rounded out the Spartans' top five by placing 11th in 26:03.2.
Each of the top five Spartans earned All-MEAC honors by virtue of placing in the top 15.

Kenneth Giles was named MEAC Cross Country Most Outstanding Coach for the 12th time.
The Spartans will complete at the NCAA Southeast Regional at the University of Virginia on Nov. 10.
