NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women's basketball senior guard/forward
Kayla Roberts picked up MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second-straight time as the conference office announced weekly honors on Tuesday.
Roberts appeared in three games the past week and tallied 23 rebounds, 10 blocks and five steals to go along with 45 points and eight assists. The Miami, Florida native led the Spartans (2-3) in points, rebounds and steals and shared the team high in assists and blocks in Norfolk State's 61-58 loss to Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 21 and picked up all-tournament distinctions at the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament.
Roberts held at least a share of the game high in blocks in all of the last three games and ranks second in the conference in both total blocks (16) and blocks per game (2.6). She also leads NSU in steals and rebounding average.
The weekly defensive honor is the eighth in Roberts' career.
Norfolk State returns to action on Wednesday, when it welcomes High Point to Echols Hall at 5:30 p.m.
