MEAC Tournament Bracket
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The Norfolk State bowling team opened up play on Saturday with a victory over Howard, but the Bison eventually defeated the Spartans later in the day to knock NSU out of the MEAC tournament at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake.
Norfolk State began the morning as the No. 4 seed after qualifying on Friday. The Spartans faced a tight battle in the opening game against No. 5 seed Howard. But in the end, 21
st-ranked NSU came away with a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven Baker series.
On the Spartans' side of the bracket also sat Maryland Eastern Shore, the top seed after Friday's qualifying rounds. NSU gave it a ride against the eighth-ranked Hawks. MDES needed some extra frames before eventually topping the Spartans, 4.5-3.5, after the teams had tied in one of their games.
Howard, meanwhile, swept Bethune-Cookman by a 4-0 score to earn a rematch against the Spartans in the double-elimination format. The Bison had the answer for NSU this time around, topping the Spartans by a 4-1 margin.
Maryland Eastern Shore later defeated Howard again, and No. 2 seed North Carolina A&T came out of the bottom bracket unscathed to earn a date against the Hawks on Sunday in the MEAC Championship game.
NSU ended its 2016-17 season at 62-44 overall. The Spartans will not lose any seniors from this year's team.
