NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University sophomores
Jacob Milton and
Martha Bissah were feted by the MEAC with weekly track and field honors on Wednesday. Milton was selected the conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while Bissah was named Women's Co-Track Athlete of the Week.
The honors are the second of the indoor season for both athletes. Milton was also honored on Jan. 17, while Bissah won the award last week.
Milton cleared 7 feet, 0.5 inch in winning the high jump at the Penn State National Open last weekend. The mark ties his personal-best performance, which is tops in the MEAC and tied for 24th nationally this indoor season. The high jump title was also his second win in that event this year.
Bissah opened up in the 800 meters last weekend and promptly ran an indoor personal-best time of 2 minutes, 6.59 seconds at Penn State. That was good for a second-place finish behind a post-collegiate entrant. Bissah's time is the fastest in the MEAC and 10th-best in the nation. She also ran a leg on the Spartans' second-place 4x400 relay team that clocked a season-best time of 3:49.20.
The Spartans are back in action this weekend at Liberty University's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
