2018 Softball Schedule Revealed

NORFOLK
, Va. – The 2018 Norfolk State softball schedule is now out, which includes a back loaded home schedule among 24 games in Norfolk altogether. Head coach James Inzana and the Spartan program are set to play a total of 48 contests during the regular season this year.
 
NSU will host the last nine games and 12 of the last 15 of the season. The Spartans' home slate includes five non-conference doubleheaders in addition to the usual nine conference games. They will also welcome South Carolina State and Davis & Elkins for a total of five games as part of the annual Spartan Classic.
 
The softball program will begin the year on the road with two games against South Carolina State and one each against Savannah State and Alabama A&M at the Savannah State Tournament from Feb. 16-18. The following weekend, S.C. State comes to Norfolk to play the Spartans once on Feb. 23 (4 p.m.) and twice on the 24th (1 p.m.) as part of the Spartan Classic. The Spartans will play a doubleheader against Davis & Elkins on Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. as well.
 
From March 2-3, the Spartans will take on four different opponents as part of the Winthrop Tournament. They also play five games from March 9-11 as part of the Holy City Showdown hosted by the College of Charleston.
 
In between those two weekends, the busy stretch continues when the Spartans play three doubleheaders in three days. They host Appalachian State for twinbills on March 5 and 6, both at 1 p.m., before heading to North Carolina A&T on March 7.
 
After the Holy City Showdown, conference play begins. And it starts at home when the Spartans host Coppin State for a three-game series from March 17-18, with two games on the first day at 1 p.m. and one on the second day at noon. They then hit the road for back-to-back weekends, at Delaware State on March 24-25 and at Maryland Eastern Shore on March 30-31.
 
Morgan State comes to town on April 7-8, playing a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on the 7th and a single game at noon on the 8th. The last road games of the regular season take place April 13-14 at Howard.
 
NSU plays three straight home non-conference doubleheaders around an off weekend. The Spartans host North Carolina Central on April 17 at 6 p.m. and Radford on April 18 at 3 p.m. They also welcome Longwood to the NSU Softball Field on April 24 at 4 p.m.
 
Norfolk State closes out the regular season at home against Hampton for a three-game series on April 28-29. The MEAC tournament will be held May 10-12 in Ormond Beach, Florida.
 
NSU will return nine letterwinners, including eight of 10 starters, from last year's team that went 12-24 overall.
