GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior
Festus Bett paced the Norfolk State men's cross country team for the second meet in a row, just missing out on a personal-best on Friday evening at the East Carolina Pirate Invitational.
Bett crossed the line in the 8,000-meter race in 25 minutes, 55.5 seconds, just two seconds shy of his 8K PR. His previous PR was established on the same course at last year's ECU Invitational. Friday, Bett finished 29th overall as the Spartans finished seventh out of 11 schools in the team standings.
Like Bett, freshman
Kamil Jihad also ran a season-best time, clocking a time of 26:43.1 to earn a top-50 finish (43rd). Junior
Bill Kemboi was 52nd in 27:01.73, junior
Felix Kiprotich was 79th in 29:16.30 and senior
Joseph Wanene placed 88th in 31:08.47 to round out NSU's five finishers.
The ECU Invitational was NSU's final tuneup before the MEAC Cross Country Championship, which takes place Oct. 27 in Smyrna, Del.
