GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Norfolk State women's cross country team competed in its third meet of the 2018 season Friday, and for the third time, junior
Martha Bissah emerged as the race's individual winner.
Bissah registered a personal-best 6,000-meter time of 20 minutes, 51.7 seconds to win the East Carolina Pirate Invitational, helping the Spartans to a third-place team finish out of nine schools. Bissah also won the U.Va. Duals and George Mason Invitational individual titles earlier in the season.
Each of the Spartans' top five runners clocked 6K PRs on Friday. In her first meet as a Spartan, freshman
Fridah Koech was NSU's second-highest finisher, crossing the finish line 18th overall in 22:38.63. Her older sister, junior
Ashah Koech, was 19th in 22:39.05.
Senior
Candice Higgins finished 22nd overall in 22:46.30, while junior Carolina Samoei was 29th in 23:42.
The Spartans are off this week before setting their sights on the MEAC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 27 in Delaware.
