Women’s Tennis Falls to John Carroll, 4-2, on Friday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Norfolk State women's tennis concluded its extended stay in Orlando, Florida with a 4-2 loss to John Carroll at the USTA National Campus on Friday.

JCU (6-3) took the doubles point by sweeping the first two flights. Alyssa Krupp and Skye Harwood blanked Tyrika Lee and Makayla Peterson in the third-seeded match, 6-0, before Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini clinched the point with a 6-0 victory against Dajana Cvjetkovic and Paula Fortuno in the top-seeded flight.

John Carroll took the first two singles matches to move to the brink of clinching the match. At sixth-seeded singles, Natalie Bourlas swept Greenhouse in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Krupp also secured a straight-sets win over Lee in the No. 5-seeded flight, 6-0, 6-0.

From there, the Spartans (1-4) seemed to put together a comeback with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3-seeded matches.

Ana Popovic defeated Nicolette Bourlas, 6-0, 6-4, in the third-seeded flight to put NSU on the board. Fortuno then followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Rini in the No. 2-seeded match.

O'Malley clinched the match in a three-set duel against Cvjetkovic in the top-seeded flight. Cvjetkovic took the first set 7-6, but O'Malley came back to take the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

The fourth-seeded flight went unfinished. Bruna Goncalves and Molly Traverso were level in the third set at the time. Goncalves took the first set 7-6 before dropping the next one 6-4. The third set was tied 2-2.

The Spartans face Savannah State on Sunday at 1 p.m. before finally returning home for a MEAC contest with Delaware State on March 24.
