NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior first baseman and pitcher
Hunter Halford was named the MEAC Co-Player of the Week on Monday when the conference office revealed its weekly softball honors.
A native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, she batted .600 (6-for-10) in three games at Delaware State last week. She had two hits in each game and added two runs, three RBI, two home runs, a triple and a walk to her total.
Halford hit both home runs on Sunday when the Spartans came away with a 10-7 victory over the Hornets in game 3 of the series. She hit 2-for-4 that game with two runs and three RBI while also walking once.
She shared the award with Heidi Smith of Maryland Eastern Shore.
On the season, Halford is hitting .333, tops on the team among regular starters. She also has 20 runs, three doubles, one triple, four home runs, 11 RBI and 14 walks with a .431 on-base percentage.
The Spartans will take on MDES this Friday and Saturday for a three-game series in Princess Anne, Maryland.
