NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women's tennis senior
Dajana Cvjetkovic received first team All-MEAC honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina native picked up her second all-conference selection of her career after being named to the second team last season. Cvjetkovic becomes NSU's first All-MEAC first-teamer since 2015, when
Liza Gordeeva and
Mafalda Lhorca both received the distinction.
Cvjetkovic anchored the No. 1 singles spot for the Spartans this season, posting an 8-4 overall record. She went 4-2 against MEAC Northern Division foes, helping NSU to a 3-3 conference record and its third-straight berth in the MEAC Tournament.
In October, Cvjetkovic was named co-champion of the Virginia Beach Clay Court Championship, winning twice before the championship match was canceled due to rain.
Cvjetkovic won her first three matches in 2018, including a three-set victory over 2018 All-MEAC second team selection Mariam Mitaishvili of Hampton, the earn conference player of the week honors. Three weeks later, she received her second player of the week nod of the season following a perfect outing against Delaware State in the Spartans' MEAC opener.
Morgan State's Danielle Thompson was named MEAC Player of the Year. Rehaana Butt of Bethune-Cookman took home rookie of the year honors, and Clayton Hamilton received coach of the year distinctions.
Voting was conducted by the sports information directors and coaches of the conference.
