Meet Results

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Norfolk State freshman Trequan Barnes smashed his personal record time in the 400-meter dash to highlight a strong showing from the Norfolk State men's track and field team on Saturday at the University of Virginia Grand Prix.

In the Spartans' last meet before the MEAC Outdoor Championships, Barnes blistered the track for a winning 400-meter dash time of 46.15 seconds. It's his second sub-47.00 time of the year, but broke his previous PR (46.99) by .84 seconds. The time is the second-fastest in the MEAC and eighth-fastest in the NCAA East Region this spring.

Barnes was one of three Spartans who placed in the top eight in the 400 meters at U.Va. Junior Justin Pinder ran a season-best time of 47.99 seconds to place seventh, and sophomore Jaylen Banks clocked a 48.07 to place eighth.

Barnes' wasn't the only PR set by a Spartan on Saturday. Freshman Keith Brown registered a time of 10.51 seconds in the 100 meters in a runner-up finish, just .01 behind winner Dontavian Smith of UNC. Brown's previous best was a 10.54 at the Charlotte Invitational two weeks prior.

The Spartans took just a small contingent of field athletes to U.Va., but high jumpers Garth Warner and Jacob Milton tied for first with a top height of 6 feet, 10.25 inches.

The Spartans compete at the MEAC Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
