NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman
Megan Wheat of the Norfolk State bowling team competed in the team's first competition of the season last weekend at the Virginia Union Invitational. She began her career by being named the MEAC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
A native of nearby Chesapeake, Wheat averaged 173.8 in five traditional games on Saturday for the highest average on the team for the day. She rolled a high game of 211 and also had a 181 in her collegiate debut, leading a squad that competed with just six bowlers, all either freshmen or sophomores.
The Spartans finished with a 5-7 record for the weekend at the three-day invitational and place seventh out of 11 teams. After opening their season at Virginia Union, they will turn right around and head to the first MEAC regular season meet of the year this Friday through Sunday in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
