NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State bowling team concluded competition at the MEAC No. 2 meet this weekend, finishing eighth in the conference standings and earning the No. 8 seed for the 2026 MEAC Bowling Championship scheduled for March 20–22 in Greensboro, N.C.
All eight conference programs gathered at AMF Norfolk Lanes on Saturday and Sunday as the event finalized the regular-season standings and championship seeding. Norfolk State went 0-7 in traditional matches and finished the regular season 0-14 against MEAC opponents.
The Spartans opened the weekend with four matches on Saturday against Morgan State, Delaware State, Coppin State and UAB, totaling 2,827 pins compared to 3,644 by their opponents.
Grace Geluso led Norfolk State in the opening match, posting a 184 in a 901-684 loss to Morgan State, while senior LaShauna Burrus added 179 pins.
Geluso (185) and Burrus (175) again paced the Spartans in an 890-729 setback to Delaware State.
Geluso recorded her top performance of the day with a 205 against Coppin State, but NSU fell 894-707.
In the final match Saturday, Shayla Yancey delivered a team-high 199 as the Spartans dropped a 959-707 decision to UAB.
Action continued Sunday as Norfolk State faced North Carolina A&T, Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore.
Geluso posted her best game of the weekend with a 212 against N.C. A&T, while Burrus added 179. Savannah Stover contributed 158 pins, Yancey added 108 and Aaliyah Allen recorded 100.
Burrus closed the weekend with back-to-back 192 games to lead the Spartans in both contests as NSU fell 992-657 to Howard and 1053-647 to Maryland Eastern Shore.
Norfolk State now turns its focus to the North Carolina A&T State Stallings Invite, where the Spartans will compete from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Greensboro, N.C.
