NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore pitcher
Skylar Swain was honored by the MEAC on Monday evening when she was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week for softball.
Swain improved her record to 8-5 on the year after allowing just one unearned run in a 6-1 win at Delaware State on Saturday. She helped NSU sweep a doubleheader from the Hornets and push the Spartans closer to the division title.
A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Swain pitched all seven innings and allowed 10 hits but just the one unearned run with five strikeouts. She forced DSU to strand seven runners while recording a season high in strikeouts.
She currently leads the MEAC in ERA at 2.47, ahead of teammate
Hunter Halford who ranks second at 2.52. Swain has thrown three shutouts this year and has struck out 30 in 79.1 innings of work.
NSU currently leads the MEAC Northern Division at 10-2, part of a 23-16 overall record. The Spartans need one win in their last three games to secure at least a share of the division title and the No. 1 seed from the North in next month's MEAC Championship.
