NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior outfielder
Caleb Ward was voted to the Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 baseball team, the organization announced.
To qualify for the team, student-athletes must have attended their respective schools for at least one year and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 in addition to making a significant impact on their teams. The District 3 team consists of baseball players from Division I universities in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Ward, a redshirt junior who transferred after two years at the University of Richmond, has a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in mass communication. Earlier this spring, Ward was named the 2018-19 NSU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year.
On the field, Ward is batting .280 with 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and a team-high 38 runs batted in. He ranks fourth in the MEAC in RBIs. Ward has started all 44 games for the Spartans, who won the MEAC Northern Division regular-season title with a 17-7 conference mark (22-22 overall).
As a member of the District 3 team, Ward will now move onto the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be voted on later this month and released in early June. Ward is the second Spartan baseball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in the last three seasons. Current assistant coach
