SINKING SPRING, Pa. – The Norfolk State bowling team won a pair of games late in the weekend as the Spartans completed the three-day Baker Classic hosted by Chestnut Hill at Berks Lanes.
The Spartans won their last game of the day on Saturday and picked up another win on Sunday during bracket play. NSU bowled 13 games throughout the weekend, all Baker games, going 2-11 overall. A total of 14 teams competed at the tournament.
The team's lone win over the first two days came in the last game on Saturday, when the Spartans topped Mount Aloysius 832-810. The Mounties got revenge twice on Sunday, however, topping the Spartans 4-1 and 4-0 during the best-of-seven bracket round.
NSU won its revenge game in between those two losses on Sunday, a 4-2 victory over a St. Thomas Aquinas squad that had defeated the Spartans the day before.
On Friday, Norfolk State suffered losses to Howard (830-731), Caldwell (953-728), host Chestnut Hill (917-764), Walsh (789-748), and No. 18 Delaware State (998-818).
St. Thomas Aquinas (771-696), No. 20 Adelphi (906-772), Kutztown (962-827), and No. 17 Fairleigh Dickinson (948-867) all earned victories over the Spartans on Saturday.
NSU will head to the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State this weekend at the AMF Towson Lanes.
