HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to conference foe N.C. Central in the first match of the Spring Fest Tournament in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Eagles took control early by winning the first two doubles matches. The Spartans no. 1 pair of
Vini Da Silva and
Andres Alcaraz fell 6-3 to the Eagles' pair from Greece, Thanos Spyropoulos and Christos Dagklis.
Agustin Carrizo and
Ignacio Guevel dropped the no. 2 doubles match 6-4 Amit Baran and Miles Clark.
Da Silva started out in the no. 1 singles for NSU, dropping a crucial first set tiebreaker with Eagles' Spyropoulos and eventually dropping the match 6
3-7
6, 3-6.
Andres Alcaraz retired in the second set of his match, while NSU's Carrizo fell in a close 4-6, 5-7 match to Dagklis. The Spartans' Guevel won the only match of the day, with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 win over Clark.
Ibrahim Abbas and
Anderson Brickhouse competed at the no. 5 and no. 6 single spots. Abbas fell 0-6, 3-6, while Brickhouse dropped his match 6-0, 6-0.
The men's tennis team continues the Spring Fest Tournament on Wednesday for a 12:15 pm match against Saint Louis University.
