NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State men's basketball head coach
Robert Jones will be featured during the launch of the Pepsi Coach's Corner, a podcast series drawing on leadership lessons from coaches and executives. The podcast is a collaboration between iHeartMedia and PepsiCo Beverages North America, South Division.
Hosted by Michael Rady, PepsiCo's Vice President of Human Resources for the South Division, the podcast launches today with a double-episode special featuring Jones and Miami Marlins Manager Don Mattingly. The launch also features an introduction from legendary sportscaster Dick Vitale.
Pepsi Coach's Corner is available at
www.iheart.com. The second episode of the podcast features Jones discussing the level of competitiveness it takes to be elite and how to establish and maintain a high performing culture.
Having just completed his eighth season as the head coach of the Spartans, Jones this year led NSU to its second-ever MEAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The Spartans defeated Appalachian State in the First Four for their second ever NCAA Tournament win. He guided the program to a 17-8 overall record this year and an 8-4 MEAC mark, good for a share of the Northern Division title during the regular season.
He owns a career record of 142-119, including 92-32 in the MEAC. Jones was named a finalist for this year's Ben Jobe, Hugh Durham, and Skip Prosser Man of the Year awards selected by CollegeInsider.com. His .742 win percentage in conference play ranks fifth in the nation among active head coach with at least 100 games coached.
Upcoming installments of the Pepsi Coach's Corner will be released monthly and feature interviews with recognized coaches from across the sports landscape. Coaches who will be highlighted include Jon Cooper, Stanley Cup Champion Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning; Tamika Catchings, former WNBA Champion and Current VP of Basketball Operations & General Manager of the Indiana Fever; Dan Mullen, Head Football Coach of the Florida Gators; Marianne Stanley, Hall of Famer and Head Coach of the Indiana Fever, and more.
