FARMVILLE, Va. – Cullan Wadsworth homered twice and drove in six runs to lead Longwood to a 14-6 non-conference win over Norfolk State on Tuesday evening at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Minjae Hong had two RBIs to lead the Spartans (9-18), who finished with five hits on the night.
Wadsworth and Justin Looney both hit two-run home runs in a four-run first inning for Longwood (9-16). Wadsworth tacked on a three-run shot in the second, which saw the Lancers add nine more runs to open up a 13-0 lead. Ricky Jimenez, who had three hits, added a two-run single in the second for Longwood.
NSU's offense came to life in the middle innings. In the third,
Adam Collins walked and advanced on a single by
Raphy Rodriguez. Collins scored NSU's first run on a wild pitch.
In the fourth,
Jacob Council walked and
Danny Hosley followed with a single. Hong doubled them both in. Hosley's fielder's choice in the sixth and Collins RBI groundout plated two more runs.
Pinch hitter
Korey Singh capped NSU's scoring in the ninth, when he doubled in
Khie Simms, who walked.
Five different Spartans accounted for the team's hits. For Longwood, Wadsworth and Hayden Harris scored three runs apiece.
NSU used five pitchers on the night. Relievers
Tyrin Everette,
Nolan Manzer and
Michael Portela all pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
The Spartans hit the road for their next series, a four-game MEAC set at Florida A&M this Friday through Sunday.
