Hosley is one of 10 Semifinalists for John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year

NORFOLK, Va. – Monday was a big day for Norfolk State senior utility man Danny Hosley. The shortstop/pitcher was selected as the MEAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week and also named as one of 10 semifinalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

Hosley hit 6-for-9 (.667 average) in three games against Delaware State last weekend. He was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI in NSU's win in game two of the series. Then on Saturday, he notched a career-high four hits and four RBIs, batting 4-for-5 and scoring one run, in another come-from-behind win to help clinch the series. His three-run double with two outs in the bottom of the eighth helped spark the comeback.

Hosley, who pitches, also threw five innings and struck out eight batters in game two of the series, earning a no-decision. This is his second Player of the Week honor this year, and he has also earned four Pitcher of the Week awards.

For the year, Hosley is batting a team-high .387 while also posting a 6-1 pitching record and 2.98 ERA.

The Olerud award goes to the nation's top Division I baseball player who pitches in addition to playing the field. It is named after the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The complete list of semifinalists, which includes players from Florida State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska, among others, can be found here.
