NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time in three weeks Norfolk State softball freshman Kenna Higa has been named the MEAC Rookie of the Week. She previously was named on March 7. She had also been named the MEAC Player of the Week on February 28.
Higa finished the week starting all five games at third base. She hit .375 in the doubleheader against Hampton and the three-game series against Howard to open MEAC play. She led the Spartans with six hits over the five games including a pair of doubles. She also finished the week with five RBI and .500 slugging percentage. In the series finale against the Bison, she went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI in NSU's 16-5 win.
This week marks the fifth time in the first six weeks of the season that a Spartan has been named to one of the weekly MEAC awards.
NSU returns to the diamond this weekend with a weekend MEAC series against Morgan State. The Spartans start off with a doubleheader against the Bears on Saturday, March 26. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
