NORFOLK, Va. -- After hitting .500 over the weekend, Norfolk State softball freshman
Kenna Higa was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week. This is the second weekly honor for Higa this season after being named the MEAC Player of the Week just one week ago.
Higa finished the Spartan-Pirate Clash collecting hits on five of her 10 at bats, including a home run, her third of the season, and a double. The drove in three runs and touched home plate twice herself while also walking three times and was hit by a pitch on four separate occasions. Her power was on display with a .900 slugging percentage.
The Spartans have won a weekly award each of the first four weeks of the year with three Pitcher of the Week, two Player of the Week and now one Rookie of the Week.
NSU plays a mid-week double-header at Virginia Tech on Wednesday and a single game against 2021 Women's College World Series darling James Madison. The Spartans then travel to Marshall for the Thundering Herd Invite over the weekend.
