PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Aleksandra Evdokimova picked up one of the most impressive singles victories of her young career on Saturday, notching Norfolk State's point in the Spartans' 6-1 loss to Temple.
The sophomore from Moscow, Russia cruised past Temple's Jamie Wei at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. It marked Wei's first loss in singles play this spring, coming into Saturday's match with a 5-0 record.
The Owls swept the opening doubles point, winning Court 3 by default. Wei and Maiko Uchijima, the No. 8-ranked pairing in the nation, defeated Evdokimova and Ruiz at the top position 6-3. Evei Wei and Veronika Kulhava took down
Zada McMorris and
Amal Gati 6-1 at No. 2.
Temple picked up victories at No. 5 and No. 6 doubles by default. Temple's three other singles wins, at positions No. 2, 3, and 4, all came by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
Norfolk State completes its road trip on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Loyola University of Maryland.
