PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Norfolk State women's bowling team got the 2023 portion of the schedule underway over the weekend, competing in the Griffin Baker Classic at Chestnut Hill College.

The Spartans finished 15
th in the final standings after winning four matchups and losing six. NSU ended with a total pinfall of 8,298, an average of 169 per game.

Mercyhurst took first place in the event, winning the championship match 828-699 against Delaware State.

 The Spartans got off to a hot start on Saturday, defeating Caldwell 904-842 in the opening match of the day. They continued to uphold the strong advantage, defeating Holy Family 908-549 in their next contest.

NSU hit a cold streak after the solid start, dropping its next six matches to Roberts Wesleyan (889-822), Wagner (1,035-855), Mercyhurst (891-798), Merrimack (877-818), Coppin State (841-808), and Molloy (1,002-867).

The Spartans finished strong, beating Chestnut Hill 853-826, before defeating St. Anslem 665-550 in the championship bracket.

Norfolk State returns to action from Feb. 18 to Feb. 19 in the second MEAC meet of the season, taking place in Greensboro, N.C.
