CARY, N.C. — The No. 6 seed Norfolk State women's tennis team's 2022-23 season came to a close on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-0 to No. 3 seed Delaware State in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships.
Inclement weather moved the match indoors at Cary Tennis Park, and forced the teams to dive straight into singles play. With only three available courts, the top three players in the lineup squared off first.
Delaware State's Kit Yi Kay Au-Yeung defeated Aleksandra Evdokimova 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 position to get the Hornets on the board, before Julia Daria took down Breana Cook by the same score at No. 3. Laura Ruiz battled through multiple deficits, but was ultimately bested by Noelani Lui 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.
Baluck Deang earned the clinching point for the Hornets, defeating Zada McMorris 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.
