NORFOLK, Va. | It was a glorious day for Norfolk State University Athletics inside the James D. Gill Health and Physical Education Building on Tuesday afternoon with the unveiling of the Verrecchia-DeLonde Sports Performance Simulator.
The Verrecchia-DeLonde Sports Performance Simulator was completed a few weeks ago and the ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday in front of more than 50 family, friends, faculty and staff members.
"We are excited to open the Verrecchia-DeLonde Sports Performance Simulator" Director of Athletics Melody Webb said. "Today, we honored Antwyne DeLonde and his family, who have sacrificed their time, talent and treasure for Norfolk State University Athletics. The simulator would serve in a joint capacity within academics and athletics. The implementation of the simulator will allow NSU to provide golf in a more structured environment, helping students maximize their potential, while developing their craft."
DeLonde, an alum of the University and runs the Peak Wealth Management Group at Merrill Lynch, wanted to give back to the Athletics Department and the University. While at Norfolk State, he turned to mentor and former Chief of Police, Anthony Walker, who shared his passion about playing golf.
Williams was among those who were at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebrated the event. DeLonde said he was excited to see this vision come full circle.
"We are thrilled and honored to see this outstanding facility," DeLonde said. "We've spent many years talking about this project and to see it come full circle brought excitement, not just to me, but my entire family."
Norfolk State partnered with Uneekor, a renowned developer of engineered golf technologies and the DeLonde family to provide NSU with the ultimate golf simulator package with state-of-the-art features. This equipment allows golfers to play on a virtual golf course to develop in all aspects of their game including short and course play. With the Uneekor simulator, NSU will provide a world-class golf experience on campus and allow our students to enjoy all the benefits this partnership with the DeLonde family has to offer.
