NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State softball team played tough on Friday but couldn't come away with a victory in a pair of matchups with Wagner at NSU Softball Field.

The Spartans dropped the first matchup 6-2, before Wagner pulled out a 6-3 victory in the second game, requiring eight innings to finish out the neck-and-neck battle.

Wagner executed a double steal in the first inning of the opening game with runners on the corners, taking second before the other went home on the ensuing throw. The Seahawks scored another in similar fashion a few plays later, taking an early 2-0 lead.

The Spartans got one back in the bottom half of the inning, tagging up on a pop fly.

As both defenses remained steady for over half of the game, neither team could find a rhythm. The Seahawks finally broke the cold streak with a pair of hits in the fourth inning with runners on base, expanding Wagner's advantage to 5-1.

Wagner tagged on an insurance run in the seventh inning, closing out the first game soon after.

The Seahawks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second game of the afternoon, scoring all three runs in the second inning.

The Spartans fought back from there, however.
Lauren Sheehan doubled to left field, driving in a pair of RBI's.
Emree Sky Obispo and Sheehan pulled off the double steal moments later, scoring another run to tie the game 3-3.

Brierra Tyler found her groove quickly after the second inning, going the next three frames without giving up a run.
Emma Zieg and
Maddy Morris took over from there, each pitching scoreless stretches as the game went into extra innings.
The Seahawks put together another three-run frame during the eighth inning, putting them over the top for a 6-3 win.
