WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Norfolk State baseball team dropped a road bout at red-hot William and Mary 13-2 on Tuesday evening at Plumeri Park, the Tribe's seventh consecutive victory.
William & Mary got on the board first, scoring in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly. The Tribe added four runs in the third, thanks to multiple extra base hits.
Raphael Rodriguez nabbed Norfolk State's first hit of the day, a double along the right field line. The Spartans loaded the bases an inning later, but Tribe pitcher Noah Hertzler worked himself of the jam with a strikeout and flyout in quick succession.
As the rain began to pick up on Tuesday evening, both pitching staffs struggled to maintain control of the baseball. Norfolk State got on the board in the sixth inning, scoring two runs with bases loaded on a hit batter and walk.
Mac Yarbrough came in to pitch the bottom half of the inning, braving the conditions to put a zero up on the board.
The game ended in the bottom of the eighth frame, after William & Mary knocked in a two-RBI double to enact the 10-run rule.
