NORFOLK, Va. - Juniors
Diamond Johnson and
Kierra Wheeler of the Norfolk State women's basketball team won weekly player of the week awards presented by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Johnson was awarded MEAC Player of the Week after recording a career-high 32 points in the Spartans' 79-49 win over Morgan State on Monday. She also had four rebounds, five assists and four steals against the Bears.Â
Against Coppin State, Johnson had 10 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the 64-51 win.
Wheeler, who was also named the BOXTOROW National Player of the Week, led the Spartans with back-to-back 20-point double-doubles. Wheeler had 22 points and 11 rebounds against Coppin State while finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds against Morgan State.
Wheeler shot 95.6 percent from the free-throw line after going 22-23 on the weekend while averaging 23.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks.
